The reptiles of northern eurasia: taxonomic diversity, distribution, conservation status / Ananjeva, N.B. (2006)
Titre : The reptiles of northern eurasia: taxonomic diversity, distribution, conservation status Type de document : livre Auteurs : Ananjeva, N.B., Auteur ; Orlov, N.L., Auteur ; Khalikov, I.S., Auteur ; Darevsky, I.S., Auteur ; Ryabov, S.A., Auteur ; Barabanov, A.V., Auteur Mention d'édition : 1st ed. Editeur : Sofia : Pensoft Année de publication : 2006 Collection : Faunistica, 47 Importance : 245 p. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-954-642-269-9 Note générale : ISBN-10 : 954-642-269-X Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Eurasia Geographical distribution Identification Reptiles Taxonomy Résumé : Le site éditeur indique : This richly illustrated book presents up-to-date information on all the species and subspecies of turtles (7 species), lizards (112 species) and snakes (74 species) inhabiting the region of North Eurasia, which, in accordance with a decision of the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) of June 2003, comprises the territory of the former Soviet Union and Mongolia. An attempt is made here to reflect the results of new taxonomic and phylogenetic revisions relating to the herpetological fauna of this region, but not previously published in Russian-language monographs. Detailed information on geographical distribution, with schematic maps, data on type localities and conservation status (IUCN and regional Red Lists, CITES, Bern Convention), are included in each account. The book can be used as an illustrated reference work on the reptiles of North Eurasia, while the data provided could serve as a basis for the Global Reptile Assessment (GRA). More than 400 colour illustrations are included in the book(photographs of reptiles and habitats, and maps). The book is addressed to herpetologists and conservationists, both academics and students, and all reptile lovers. Beginning with the main theory behind ecological niches and species distributions, the book proceeds through all major steps of model building, from conceptualization and model training to model evaluation and spatio-temporal predictions. Extensive examples using R support graduate students and researchers in quantifying ecological niches and predicting species distributions with their own data, and help to address key environmental and conservation problems. Reflecting this highly active field of research, the book incorporates the latest developments from informatics and statistics, as well as using data from remote sources such as satellite imagery. A website at www.unil.ch/hsdm contains the codes and supporting material required to run the examples and teach courses." Leading scientists and forestry professionals have contributed in the many stages of the production of this atlas, through the collection of ground data on the location of tree species, elaboration of the distribution and suitability maps, production of the photographic material and compilation of the different chapters. The European Atlas of Forest Tree Species is both a scientific publication, in which researchers and forest specialists can find rigorous and up-to-date information on the many tree species of our forests, and a publication suited for education and the dissemination of information about the richness of our forests to our generation and future generations.
