Titre : Ecology of populations Type de document : livre Auteurs : Ranta, Esa, Auteur ; Lundberg, Per, Auteur ; Kaitala, Veijo, Auteur Mention d'édition : 1st ed. Editeur : Cambridge, UK : Cambridge University Press Année de publication : 2006 Collection : Ecology, biodiversity and conservation Importance : 373 p. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-521-67033 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Ecology Population biology Spatial behavior Résumé : The theme of this book is the distribution of the abundance of organisms in space and time. Its core lies in how local births and deaths are tied to emigration and immigration processes, and how environmental variability at different scales affects population dynamics with stochastic processes and spatial structure. The book shows how elementary analytical tools can be used to understand population fluctuations, synchrony, processes underlying range distributions and community structure and species coexistence, as well as how spatial population dynamics models can be used to understand life history evolution and aspects of evolutionary game theory. Titre : Nonequilibrium ecology Type de document : livre Auteurs : Rohde, K. Mention d'édition : 01 éd. Editeur : Cambridge : Cambridge University Press Année de publication : 2005 Collection : Ecology, biodiversity and conservation Importance : 223 p. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-521-67455-3 Note générale : Inventaire 2008: Pointé en rayon le 28/05/2008 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Biological competition Ecology Résumé : Ecology has long been shaped by ideas that stress the sharing of resources and the competition for those resources, and by the assumption that populations and communities typically exist under equilibrium conditions in habitats saturated with both individuals and species. However, much evidence contradicts these assumptions and it is likely that nonequilibrium is much more widespread than might be expected. This book is unique in focusing on nonequilibrium aspects of ecology, providing evidence for nonequilibrium and equilibrium in populations (and metapopulations), in extant communities and in ecological systems over evolutionary time, including nonequilibrium due to recent and present mass extinctions. The assumption that competition is of overriding importance is central to equilibrium ecology, and much space is devoted to its discussion. As communities of some taxa appear to be shaped more by competition than others, an attempt is made to find an explanation for these differences. Titre : Ecology and evolution of dung beetles Type de document : livre Auteurs : Leigh W. Simmons, Éditeur scientifique ; T. J. Ridsdill-Smith, Éditeur scientifique Mention d'édition : 1st ed. Editeur : Chichester, UK : Wiley-Blackwell Année de publication : 2011 Importance : 347 p. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-4443-3315-2 Note générale : DOI:10.1002/9781444342000 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Dung beetles Ecology Evolution (Biology) Résumé : This book describes the evolutionary and ecological consequences of reproductive competition for scarabaeine dung beetles. As well as giving us insight into the private lives of these fascinating creatures, this book shows how dung beetles can be used as model systems for improving our general understanding of broad evolutionary and ecological processes, and how they generate biological diversity. Over the last few decades we have begun to see further than ever before, with our research efforts yielding new information at all levels of analysis, from whole organism biology to genomics. This book brings together leading researchers who contribute chapters that integrate our current knowledge of phylogenetics and evolution, developmental biology, comparative morphology, physiology, behaviour, and population and community ecology. Dung beetle research is shedding light on the ultimate question of how best to document and conserve the world's biodiversity. The book will be of interest to established researchers, university teachers, research students, conservation biologists, and those wanting to know more about the dung beetle taxon.
