Editeur : New York : Cambridge University Press Année de publication : 2009 Importance : 731 p. Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Plant ecology Eastern Europe Western Europe Vegetation Plant communities Environmental impact Note de contenu : English translation makes this unique book, now in its fourth edition, available to a wider audience. This book is without doubt the most important work ever published about the vegetation of central Europe and its ecology. No other book contains so much ecological information and discusses so many principles relevant not only to plant ecologists in continental Europe, but to ecologists and palaeoecologists in the British Isles and North America. Besides providing valuable syntheses of the major plant communities, Ellenberg details the ecology and environmental requirements of all the vegetation types and discusses the climatic tolerances and ecological physiology of many of the major species. The account is based upon a life time of thorough field work and experimental investigation. One of the major messages to be gleaned from the book concerns the long-lasting and considerable effects of human activity upon the vegetation, and the book therefore has much to teach about the impact of agriculture and industrial pollution and highlights the need to plan carefully for the conservation of our rich natural and semi-natural environment. Titre : The amphibians of the former Soviet Union Type de document : livre Auteurs : S. L. Kuzmin, Auteur Mention d'édition : 1st ed. Editeur : Sofia : Pensoft Année de publication : 1999 Collection : Faunistica, 12 Importance : 538 p. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-954-642-045-9 Note générale : ISBN-10 : 954-642-045-X; Contient 42 pl. coul. Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Amphibians Geographical distribution Identification USSR Eastern Europe Résumé : A fundamental review on all 41 species or 47 subspecies of Amphibia encountered in the territory of the former Soviet Union (FSU). The bulk of these taxa and their habitats are richly illustrated by numerous colour pictures, with only one species and two subspecies remaining depicted in black-and-white as too poorly-known. All distributions are grid-mapped (50x50 km), with simple conoid projection maps being preferred over UTM as better applicable to and more commonly used in the latitudinally extended FSU. Each species or subspecies is supplied with a list of synonyms and a detailed description of the morphology and, partly, karyology as well as of the current geographical range and its limits. Taxonomy of each species occurring in the FSU as well as their subspecific structure and/or geographical variability if any are discussed. Detailed data are presented on their ecology and biology, including habitats, abundance, thermobiology, activity cycles, reproduction, ontogeny, feeding, enemies and parasites, the impact of anthropogenic factors, conservation, etc. A historical overview of amphibian research in the FSU territory is given. Trophic spectra for each species are given in tabulary form. New species listings are compiled for every nature reserve and all red data books of all former Soviet republics. Keys are given to eggs (so far as known), the larvae and the adults of all FSU amphibians. A most comprehensive bibliography concerning FSU amphibians is provided (about 900 references). An indispensable treatise for anyone interested in the amphibians! The amphibians of the former Soviet Union [livre] / S. L. Kuzmin, Auteur . - 1st ed. . - Sofia : Pensoft, 1999 . - 538 p.. - (Faunistica, 12) .
