Titre : Principles of population genetics Type de document : livre Auteurs : Daniel L. Hartl, Auteur ; Clark, A.G., Auteur Mention d'édition : 4th ed. Editeur : Sunderland : Sinauer Associates Année de publication : 2007 Importance : 652 p. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-87893-308-2 Note générale : 2 ex.; Voir aussi la 3ème édition de 1997 à la cote 65512/9 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : DNA Genetic variation Genetics Migration Phenotypes Population Population genetics Population structure Probabilities Selection Résumé : Principles of Population Genetics, Fourth Edition is a thoroughly updated introduction to the field that is at last ascending to its rightful position of centrality to evolutionary genomics and human genetics. Rapid and inexpensive genotyping and sequencing have produced a profusion of data on genetic variation, along with a pressing need to inform students from many fields about the models that describe the underlying processes that give rise to observed patterns of genetic variation. This book provides a balanced presentation of theory and observation for students at the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as newcomers from fields like human genetics. The logical development of the models of population genetics encourages a deeper understanding of the principles, and the text has been rewritten with the goal to optimize its use as a teaching aid. It introduces the principles of genetics and statistics that are relevant to population studies, and examines the forces affecting genetic variation from the molecular to the organismic level. Integrated throughout the book are descriptions of molecular methods used to study variation in natural populations, as well as explanations of the relevant estimation theory using actual data. Editeur : New York : Oxford University Press, NY Année de publication : 2002 Collection : Oxford biology, NY Importance : 264 p. ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-19-859963-0 Note générale : Inventaire 2008: Pointé et ré-emprunté le 13/02/2008 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Biology Development Genetics Mathematical models Population Population genetics Statistical methods Résumé : This book contains chapters by leading population genetics that summarize many of the recent developments in population genetics theory and its application to genetic data. The book was inspired by a meeting in honour of the late French population geneticist, Gustave Malecot, held at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris, France, in the summer of 1999. Malecot was, along with R.A. Fisher, J.B.S. Haldane, and S. Wright, among the founders of theoretical population genetics. The meeting demonstrated both the great interest in Malecot's work and its relevance to the recent development of the theory of coalescents and the application of that theory to genetic variation observed at the level of DNA sequence. The introductory papers in the book review Malecot's life and his contributions to the theory of population genetics. Later chapters present recent developments in population genetics with particular emphasis on the theory of coalescents. They include discussions of methods for inferring past changes in population size and patterns of genetic exchange, for inferring the ages of individual mutations, and for analysing the relationships among closely linked genes.
